Producers and Suppliers

At Larch Bakery we take the ingredients we bake with very seriously. We have taken time to source produce that is not only delicious and nutritious but also, as much as we can, we buy locally and organic. We want to use produce that comes from growers who foster good practice and care about the land and the people that work it.

Meet our Hero suppliers

Grain and Flour

For our sourdough loaves, the star of the show is True South West Flour, brought to us through the Soouthwest Grain Network. This flour contains 100% grain grown within the South West of England and is fully Organic. True South West is milled by Stoates in Dorset. The flavour is exceptional. We are very happy to have found this flour. We also buy our rye, wholemeal, spelt and pastry flour from Stoates.

Another hero supplier of grain and cereals is Hodmedod’s. Most of the grain we mill ourselves in the bakery comes from Hodmedod’s – spelt, emmer, einkorn, rye, oats, peas and lentils from Hodmedods regularly make it into our loaves. Many of the seeds and the fermented bean pastes we use in our baking are also from Hodmedods

The Sourdough School’s epic XXX blend of cereals and botanicals features in our Everyday Diversity loaves. This blend is created by eminent sourdough baker Vanessa Kimbell and has been devised with a depth of flavour and enhanced nutrition in mind. Check out the gorgeous ingredients list of this blend of grains and seeds and you will find quinoa, nettle leaves, hibiscus flower, coffee and cocoa husk amongst the black wheat, barley and spelt. This is a powerhouse blend that is a joy to use.

Butter

The Estate Dairy is a family owned business focused on high-quality dairy farming, sourcing the finest milk and cream from their partner farms in Somerset. Here at Larch Bakery, we use their award winning cultured butter for all our baking, for its depth of flavour and the richness that the culturing process brings to it. We also use the 3 star Great Taste Award winning yoghurt from The Estate Dairy as we have never tasted better yoghurt. Aside from the great dairy they produce, we are also happy to note that The Estate Dairy has been awarded certified B Corporation status.

Chocolate

All the chocolate we use in our baking comes from Chocolate Tree, makers of award-winning craft chocolate, based in Scotland. They source single origin & heirloom cacao from South & Central America, and work only with cacao producers who ensure organic agro-forestry farming practices and guarantee a higher income to farmers.

Panela

We are currently adapting our sweet recipes to use Pure Panela, an unrefined raw cane sugar from Columbia. Panela is nutrient and vitamin rich with a delicious rich caramel flavour that far outshines any refined sugars we have baked with.

Eggs

Our eggs are bought locally and are always fresh and genuinely free-range.

Fruit and Vegetables and other fresh produce

For years we have been buying all our fruit and vegetables from the wonderful Wells Fruit and Veg. Julia and Jamie run a beautiful market twice a week with the best of seasonal and local produce. This stall is somewhat of a local institution, and quite rightly so. If you are eating a tart or pastry from us that features fruit or vegetables, you can be sure it was the best that Wells Fruit and Veg had to offer that day! If you ever have the opportunity to visit, check out Jude’s beautifully curated cheese stall that she runs alongside, and you can pick up one of our loaves or buns there too.
